DOWNLOAD LOCATION CHANGER · FEATURE GUIDE
Set up the Windows companion for Download Location Changer
The Chrome extension provides destination controls. The Windows companion supplies the local operations needed for absolute paths, opening folders, and optional file conversion.
Requirements and release availability
The companion targets Windows 10 or Windows 11 on x64 systems, together with Chrome and Download Location Changer. A macOS or Linux companion is not available yet. The extension is preparing for its first Chrome Web Store release. An unsigned Windows companion preview and its SHA256 checksum are available on the product page; the store link will follow publication. A fresh Windows install and first-time LibreOffice administrator approval remain unverified.
Install once for your Chrome profile
Use the preview installer linked from the product page only if your Windows security policy permits unsigned preview software. Do not bypass security warnings. It installs its own Python runtime and registers the local messaging host. The Chrome profile you use for downloads must have the extension installed and enabled. A website account connection activates purchased features; it does not install the Windows helper.
Choose optional conversion components
Select FFmpeg for media conversion and LibreOffice for document export. These components take additional download time and disk space, so install only the capabilities you need. Required downloads and permissions should be reviewed in the installer before proceeding.
Troubleshoot a folder that does not receive downloads
Check that the extension shows Windows connected. Confirm the entire absolute destination, that the drive is available and that your Windows account can write to the folder. Use Open folder, download a small file, and wait for Chrome to finish before checking the final location. If the helper is disconnected, repair the installation before relying on absolute routing.
