DOWNLOAD LOCATION CHANGER · FEATURE GUIDE

Sort Chrome downloads into folders by file type

Automatic sorting groups downloaded files into destination subfolders according to their file extension. Use readable folder names and explicit rules so the resulting location stays predictable.

Match extensions to a folder

Define which extensions belong in each category. For example, image formats can go into images and video formats into videos. Edit the category folder names to match your existing project structure. The rule changes the destination folder; it does not change the actual file format.

Include the formats you actually download

AVIF, WebP, PNG and JPEG are different image formats. Keep the extensions you need in your image rule rather than assuming that every image ends in .png. Similarly, review document and video extensions when adding sources from a new website.

Keep sorting separate from conversion

Sorting an AVIF file into images preserves an AVIF file unless conversion is enabled separately. Optional PNG, MP4 and PDF conversion uses the installed Windows components and supports only compatible inputs. Check the output file as well as its containing folder.

Test rules against a real destination

Choose the project root, check the rule folder, then download a small representative file. The Windows companion is required for an absolute destination outside Chrome’s normal download folder. Automatic sorting and local conversion are PRO capabilities; live purchases are awaiting store approval.
