DOWNLOAD LOCATION CHANGER · FEATURE GUIDE
How to save Chrome downloads to the D: drive on Windows
There are two different ways to put a browser download on D: in Windows: set the browser download folder to D:, or transfer the finished file there. Choose based on whether you need one fixed location or frequent project switches.
Choose a writable folder on the destination drive
Open File Explorer and confirm that D: is the drive you intend to use. Create or select a folder such as D:\Downloads or D:\Projects\Client\Assets. Drive letters vary between computers; D: might be removable storage or might not exist. Check available space and write access before downloading a large file. For the notoow companion, use a local NTFS destination rather than assuming a network share or every external filesystem is supported.
Use Chrome settings for direct downloads to D:
If you want future downloads to start in one folder on D:, open Chrome Settings → Downloads and change Location to that folder. Test with a small file and use Show in folder to verify its location. This browser preference applies to new downloads. It does not move your existing Downloads collection or change the Windows Downloads library location for every application.
Use Download Location Changer for project switching
Install the browser extension and its Windows companion according to the current release instructions. Apply the full path, for example D:\Projects\Client\Assets, then confirm that Windows is connected. Pin that path if you will use it again. Download Location Changer transfers completed files from the browser's initial location; it does not rewrite Chrome's global download setting. A website sign-in is not a substitute for installing the local companion.
Allow space for the original download and the transfer
The companion workflow starts with the browser downloading the file. If that initial folder is on C:, C: still needs room for the original, while the chosen destination needs room for the completed copy. Optional conversion can require more temporary and output space. If C: is almost full and you only need a single fixed destination, changing the browser download folder to D: is the more direct choice.
Verify the result before relying on a new destination
Download one small file, wait for completion, and open the selected folder from the extension. Confirm the file opens correctly and check the connection status if it is missing. An unavailable drive, a read-only folder, or a disconnected helper can prevent routing. Keep the original until you understand any reported failure. Do not manually delete working files while a transfer is active.
